	Vane's arms


Much had she seen before this glittering place
And others dressed in clothes of days of yore
While just one couple placed themselves before,
Which man and maiden danced around the space.

Then felt she like a watcher in the room:
Rich were the stuffs of which the gowns were made,
Joyful the music as it loudly played,
Swift spun the women fighting off their doom.

When sun came up, once-weakened ones would dare,
Those hobbled would tomorrow be not lame.
Unlike stout lady sitting in a chair,
Clearly she saw it only was a game.
This, she surmised, might make the plain so fair.
Silent, the rules, but spoken just the same
