Large the lounge was, and the tables laden with drink. Music they had and the musicians sat upon a raised dais hung with gold. The Lady Harriet entered, took of a silver goblet, and gazed upon the dancers. Man and maiden, they were. Fair he was, and young, and his hair shone like the helm of an elf lord. His lady was gowned in royal hues and she revolved around him as the musicians played the lay of the Danube:
"Ah, the old ways are gone; they are gone, and with them their songs," sighed the Lady Harriet. She gazed upon the other ladies, clad in raiment of the years past. Long were their gowns and feather-bedecked and they carried wondrous fans. And lo! on the morrow, these same maidens would be revealed, strong and brave and cold as the stars, clad in the tunic of the warrior. And the men would marvel at the transformation and some would sing of the glory of the maidens. The Lady Harriet saw all this and rejoiced that both men and maids understood such deep mysteries.
