Pikes Peak

It was a beautiful day for a trip up to the summit of Pikes Peak.  We decided to take the Cog Railroad, which was much more relaxing that an hour plus drive up a dirt road.  The steam engine Allan is posing with is used at least once a year for special events.

There was a nice sign to remember the visit.

One of the fun things to do at the summit is have a high altitude dougnut.  Everyone but Annika thought they were great.

                        The view was amazing!

The weather was clear, but cold.

A few pictures around the train.  Yes, it drops off, and if the train went too far at the top it would go right over the side of the mountain.

Headed back down.  We had to pass a few trains on their way up at a couple of spots.  Windy Point is where the men who build the rail would live while working on the track, and Mountain View is where hikers get on and off to make their way around the mountain.
