Of dirt and bikes....
Went to Spokane WA and got a new
bike. A 2005 KTM
200EXC.Why Spokane? In
Baja I had the pleasure of riding with a gentleman named Dave Russell. Dave
Russell owns a KTM dealership in Spokane. He has been a KTM dealer for 31 years.
YIKES, 31 and he still has the love of dirt biking. He knows his stuff, in Baja
I was talking to him about a 200. I wanted a light weight bike that would be a
handful. I was worried about the "hit" a small two stroke has. Dave said he sets
up 200s for guys like me all of the time. He makes a few changes to make the
power band a little more linear with more low end power. I like Dave and I trust
him to set the bike up
right.Why a KTM 200EXC? It
is small and light weight. I rode my new bike today. NICKY likes it. It is
different from what I am use to. The power does come on strong, but the power is
very predictable. The handling is very, very nice. For the riding I brought the
KTM 200 for, the bike should be great. I didn't ride any thing very gnarly, some
single track and a lot of double track. The single track was very easy, I could
flick the bike around as if it were a large mountain bike. I did stall it a few
times, my fault, gotta shift more and slip the clutch more. It did start easy,
never had any problem starting it other than I kept reaching for the "magic
button". I really like not having engine braking. Mountain bike don't have
engine braking and that is how I learned to ride. My 400 is a easy bike to ride
because of the tractor like power it has down low. I can creep and crawl up and
down every thing. I just go, go slow because I have a hand full when riding the
tight stuff. The little KTM is light, I can move it around under me just like my
mountain bike. SWEET. I can't wait to ride some tight stuff.
