100 mile dirtbike ride in the hills of B.C.S (Baja California Sur)

Went for a hundred mile dirt bike
ride out of Los Barrilies to the hills around San Antonio. It was a group ride
of 8 guys and 1 girl who winter in Los Barrilies. All are competent riders
ranging in ages from their late forties up to 65 year of age. The riding was
mostly fast 2 track with one gnarly creek bed/trail near the beginning. The
creek bed/trail was overgrown (the reason it was gnarly) from all of the rain
Baja Sur has received over the last few year, a couple of hurricanes and heavy
rains this year. I did this trail a couple of years ago, it was much easier
then.
We did have a odd encounter with
a local rancher/ranch hand at one point of the ride. We are not sure what he was
trying to say. He spoke very fast and seemed agitated. As near as we would tell
he was worried about hitting a motorcyclist. Most of our encounters with locals
have been very positive, this time we were upset that someone was unhappy with
anyone riding in his area. We probably won't be riding there again. Riding on
the back roads Baja is fun, very fun, the scenery is out standing, the roads can
range from smooth and fast to washed out with ruts deep enough to swallow a
truck. The scariest times are when you round a blind curve and cow is standing
there. It also doesn't help to encounter a beat-up old Ford pickup coming at
you. It is easy to understand a rancher getting upset with a gang of loud dirt
bikes raising dust and moving faster than hell down a quiet country lane. What
is what is special about riding here are the thousands of mile of back roads
with little or no traffic on them. Like I said before until today every one
waves at us and have been extremely friendly. I hope this isn't a sign of times
that so many gringos riding here that the locals are no longer amused with us.
