A long time ago in 1988 I went to Africa...
I have been setting up my new
office/darkroom during the past couple of rainy weeks. The newest part of my
system is a new printer I purchased; an Epson R1800. The printer is quite
remarkable. What I am able to print out in a matter of minutes would have taken
me hours a few years ago. I dug out my old Nikon scanner, purchased new software
to run it in OSX and started scanning and printing old stuff. I am amazed at
the quality that a Macintosh G4 PowerBook, a Nikon LS-2000 scanner and the Epson
R1800 printer can produce. The prints on par to the very best prints I was able
to produce in a profession lab costing a couple of hundred thousand dollars. The
prints are beautiful and the prints are guaranteed by Epson to last 80 to 100
years! Total cost of my current digital darkroom would be less than Six Grand
total! I have been rummaging through my collection of photographs for something
scan and test on the printer. I nearly forgot about the Africa trip. I am
posting this photo because it was shot with Nikon F3 a Nikkor 300 2.8 manual
focus lens. The Nikon scanner with new software copied the slide with all of
detail and richness of the original transparency. The 13X19 print I made from
the scan is beautiful. Click on "READ MORE" to see the entire photograph of the

the Syncline, first Mountain Bike ride of the Season .......
OK, the Syncline is a
good first ride for me, up the main trail to the top and down little Moab to
Maui's and home.... Peter's young, he been riding all winter long, he has
progressed over the last couple of years into a good rider. I can't really
fault Bruce riding, he has been riding a couple of times a week since returning
from Baja and in Baja He did ride a lot.

Just another day,
We have arrived at the Old Mill
with blue sky and no threat of rain only to wake the next morning to a muddy
quagmire.... The hiway through the small towns north from San Quintin resemble
dirt road because of all of the mud that the vehicles track onto the hiway from
the side roads.... The road only becomes clean after everything dries out and a
wind storm blows the dirt off of the road.

leaving Los Barrrilies in a couple of days,
The weather is very nice, blue skies with the
high temps in the 80s and the low at night in the high 50s.... NO WIND, just a
very light north breeze to keep humidity down and bugs away.... We did a couple
of motorcycle rides into the hills, short rides, enough to burn off a little
energy.
...The gray days should be over
by now and the days are getting warmer, warm enough to work outside on the yard
work and maybe a short mountain bike ride up the
syncline.
...This year Wayne and Sharon
have no windsurfing equipment so I will have keep some gear out in case it does
blow.... The trailer is easy, I just raise the leveling jacks, unhook the water
and power, empty the holding tanks and fill the water tank.... It is a very
tight fit for the two dirt bikes along with two mountain bikes, riding gear,
tools, windsurfing gear, and still have room for Kody's bed.

More Dirt....
Forward to fall of 2003; Andy has out grown her
TTR-125, she gets a new Honda CFR-23o, a full size play bike made for shorter
intermediate riders.... The only chance Andy has to ride on her new bike was
once in Moab and again in the fall then a couple of time the following spring
2004 in Moab.... At first I am riding with Jerry and leaving Andy behind
because she hasn't the "time on bike" to ride with "the guys".... Andy rode it
all except the narrow trail there she and Jerry pushed the bike over the hard
part.
