Rhinebeck 2004: The Swag

Here's the haul from my mother and me:

She got pewter buttons for a green cabled sweater that she's knitting. Her main purchase, though, was Blueberry Jam from Shelridge Farm.
While we were in the Shelridge Farm booth, I saw a stunning cabled sweater in a lovely blue-purple color. I was trying to place it and idly looked at the wearer's face. Then I realized. It was the Harlot.

I, in an opening line rivaled for suaveness only by 'Do you come here often?' and 'Are you apple juice? Because you are very fine.' asked 'Is that the Rhinebeck sweater?' It was, and she let me look at it up close, warning only that the zipper was in a little delicately. Another knitter who reads her blog was there, and we were extremely enthusiastic in telling her how lovely the sweater was and how much we liked her blog. Then I had to explain to my aunt and cousin why I had been struck dumb with awe when I was allowed to touch the hem of her sweater.

At Shelridge, I got the Cropped Aran in Autumn Orange. You may notice that it isn't in the pile; they were low enough on yarn that they couldn't make me up a kit, so they'll be sending it to me.

I also got the koigu to make Rockstar.

The purple yarn is from Nick's Meadow Farm. It was $4 for a 210 yard skein. After I'd bought it, when mom and I were walking outside, I looked at one of the skeins and was amazed; the purple absolutely glows. I'm planning on making a cardigan from it once Bonne Marie has her new pattern out. The sheep were from there too. Originally there were four, but two decided to return to Rhinebeck, so we only have these two more domestic ones. We gave the red one to Caleb and the white one to my dad since we'd been threatening to bring home sheep.

The last purchase is a skein of Mountain Colors sock yarn. Even Caleb liked the colors, and we were amused by the name: Crazy Woman.

Rhinebeck was wonderful. My mother, unfortunately, had left her purse at my apartment, so I was in the odd position of being the one she asked whether or not she could get something. I kept trying to encourage her to get things, but she held back.

Next year, I'm hoping to get a drop spindle; there was so much lovely roving there.
