 Lab due end of class on Thursday, October 11, 2001.
 Students may give presentations on Friday, October 12, 2001.


The OBJECTIVE of this lab is to learn a little more about creating and managing a Web site. And also to have a little fun with some of what we've learned this term.

Expected outcomes:

Student will be able to:

  • Have some fun with Web site creation.
  • Explore some advanced Web design topics.

Tasks:

  1. Create a Web site of your own design about any topic of interest to you.
  2. You may use any tool to create your Web site.
  3. Your Web site must include at least six Web pages, including your opening page
  4. Your Web site must include at least three tables.
  5. Your Web site must include appropriate links to navigate within your Web site.
  6. Your Web site must include at six links to Web pages external to your own site.
  7. Explore JavaScript at JavaScriptSource, Doc JavaScript, or perhaps JavaScript.com.
    1. For this lab try JavaScript on your Web pages, select at least one "cut and paste" script from JavaScriptSource or some other Web site. There is no shortage of free scripts to try!
  8. Explore Java at JavaBoutique.
    1. Review a Java tutorial, discover how to import an Applet, modify it for your context, so it can be used in one of your creations.
    2. For this lab try Java on your Web pages, select at least one Applet from JavaBoutique or some other Web site.

  10. Your Web site subject content must be follow the guidelines of Heald Colleges Acceptable Use Policy for computer and Internet use.
  11. Students will submit your work required above as a Web site.
    1. Provide a copy of your Web site to Mr. Wersinger as directed soon.
    2. Students will also "publish" your Web site to our in-class Web server.
  12. Students will have an opportunity to demonstrate your Web site to our class on Friday, October 12, 2001.
