  Introduction

We are embarking on an exploration of the origins and ways of the Internet and the World Wide Web. We are attempting to discover what is the "SO WHAT," that is, what impact does this have on us today here in this place.

  • Who invented this Internet stuff?
  • Is the World Wide Web the same as the Internet?
  • How did this all get started? How does this Internet stuff work?
  • How does the information get from somewhere "out there" to desktops all over the world?
  • What is that somewhere "out there?"
  • How is this thing built?
  • Who controls the Internet and the World Wide Web?
  • Who pays for it?
