Arrival

So we left our house and pets to Margot, who drove us to the airport in Philip's car. Our plane was on time. All our planes were on time, and we landed in a New York City that was bright and blindingly so. We got a cab without too much fuss, and off we set to the Casablanca Hotel.

Well, we'd done the research. And the only complaint — the only complaint — about this hotel was the fact that it was so small and intimate that it had a problem with overbooking. So Philip had called last week to confirm. And the hotel had called Philip on Thursday evening to confirm.

And when we got in, we'd been bumped from our room.

We didn't look very happy, I suppose. They were very glib about it (and very nice too, I may add; we would do well to study their delivery in Nassau, believe you me), and they said they'd moved us to their sister hotel, the Library Hotel, for the weekend, and they'd move us back to the Casablanca on Sunday. The only thing that the Library Hotel had against it was that it was further away from the theatres than the Casablanca; we'd looked at it and had considered booking a room there, but it was more expensive and further away, and the Casablanca had the kind of character we were looking for. I wasn't sorry, though, nor was Philip, especially considering that the Library Hotel was giving us a rate that was $10 cheaper than the Casablanca's, and we were getting a complimentary night at the Casablanca and a complimentary bottle of wine.

So off we went to the Library Hotel.
