Successful writing has as much to do with reading, editing and revising as it has to do with writing itself. You should plan to write drafts of your papers so that you can get feedback from your classmates and peers before you hand the final paper in to me.

Peer editing accounts for 2% of your participation grade.

As a peer editor, you have the chance to do two things:

1. help your fellow students by reading, responding to, and editing their drafts
2. help develop your own critical skills by learning what to look for in others' work.

TIPS:

• To save you from too much work, focus on ONE OR TWO major points in your partner's essay.
  • Possible focuses: Claim, coherence, organization, style
• Try and decide what the writer's biggest challenge is in the draft you are editing, and try and give suggestions about what can be done to fix it.
