Flight Plan to France

Te Kiwi Cavaliers are due to lift off from Surbiton at 0712 on Friday morning. The flight plan takes us over south-east England. We plan to go supersonic as we pass The Grove Tavern. Residents are advised that the triple air-horns will be sounded. Take to your bunkers chaps.... HERE WE GO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Last-minute mechanical work on The Horse

The front disc pads have been replaced, and spring lifters fitted to the rear suspension. They have given us about 2 inches of extra ground clearance and will help to carry the extra weight in the car.

After the Send-Off Party

We had a fantastic Send-Off Fiasco Party at The Grove Tavern on Tuesday night. We had 5 rally vehicles present. Thanks to the Clueless Racers, Desert Vikings, Blacksheep, Cosmic Cohones for bringing their splendid cars along.

There were some seedy-looking team members on Wednesday morning!

Thank You Vauxhall Motors

They were very generous donating the spare parts we needed. What's more they were delivered by a Top Guy called Alex in a Vauxhall VX 220.... a very sporty sports car. Hmmm... wouldn't mind one of those. Not for the desert though.

Provisions

Quick trip to Tescos today...

To stock up on a few provisions. We got goodies for the first part of the trip, and a few more essentials for our camping in the desert. There are boxes and bags of things all over the place at the moment, and you can't move without tripping over tents and sleeping bags and backpacks. We're going to have extra bodies sleeping on the floor tomorrow night after the Send-Off Fiasco. Wonder where they'll all fit?

Putting some paint on the car

We painted strategic parts of the car this afternoon, in preparation for the sign-writer tomorrow morning who is going to be "creative". Hmmm.... could be interesting. Photos will follow

Sally will be providing the Daily Progress Updates During the Rally

She is currently going into "training mode" with the iBlog software

We will be sending text messages to Sally, and email when we can, so that she can update this WebLog. Of course, some of the time we will be out of range of any cellphone coverage, such as in the desert.

We're not sure if we are going to be able to upload any photos, but will try when we get to internet cafes en route.

Roof Bars are on

Yup, the roof bars we scored off eBay fit the car good and proper

Now we have to gets some bits of wood or pipe to make a platform for all the goodies and equipment we want to throw up there. Our cunning plan is to cantilever a bit of weight forward, to increase the traction to the front-wheel drive.

We've got three pieces of timber about 50 x 50 mm and 1.7 m long. Spencer has cut notches in these so they can be lashed to the roof bars, and we can tie lots of bits and pieces such as a spare wheel and jerry cans on.
