Saint Jacob's Church

Saint Jacob's Church

Saint Jacobs Cathedral was first recognized in 1226. It is located outside of the old city walls. The church is Roman Catholic. Its orginal purpose back in the 1200s was to serve the travelers to Riga, not Riga's citizens. Amazingly the church has kept its Gothic spire through the ages. The tower at the top has kept its appearance since 1756 when a Baroque addition was created at the bottom of the tower. It is built in the early Gothic style.
