Welcome to ISL's 6th grade!

6th Grade class pictures, no Alex V.

Hello! We are the 6th grade class of ISL. In our class, there are twelve students aged from 11 to 12. Our names are: Tal, Adi, Lisa, Marie, Selma, Juliette, Charlotte, Alex J., Ariel, Martin, William, and our teacher, Mr. Bush. Alex V. did not want to have his picture taken. He is shy.

We come from many different countries: Israel, Iceland, Norway, Denmark, Germany, Sweden, Estonia, France, and the U.S.A. Our teacher, Mr. Bush, teaches us English and History twice a day. He is mostly friendly and funny, but sometimes he is angry when we don't listen.

International School of Latvia
Our school is called ISL-- International School of Latvia. Our principal, Mr. Winters, and our director, Mrs. Cindy, are really nice and they help us a lot at school.

Mr. Bill Bush: Middle School Language Arts & History teacher

Mr. BushHello and thank you for visiting our website. The sixth grade has been working hard to bring this site to you. I have been amazed at how much they have learned (and me too!) about Latvia. We have all learned that history isn't necessarily something that happened hundreds of years ago. History is happening around us all the time!

Individual Comments

AdiHey! What's up? My name is Adi and I come from Israel. In this project, I have learned about the monuments, the Jewish synagogue, and more... For me the project was fine. I didn't like to search for information because sometimes it was hard. In the future, I don't know if I would really want to do something similar, it was a little bit annoying. When we worked as a group, it was more fun because we thought together and we shared a lot.

AlexHi my name is Alex and I am from Sweden. I have learned a lot, like about the monuments like the Red Riflemen and Peace Dance. My opinion about this project is that it is good to make Latvia known for the whole world. I would like to do something like this again in the future because it is fun. It is fun learning about the monuments.

AlexGreetings! My name is Alex. I'm 11 years old and I'm from Israel. This project is one of the funnest of all the projects because I learned more about Latvia and I know it was worth it to come here. I had loads of fun working with my friends. See you on March 20th! Bye.

arielHey! My name is Ariel!!! I'm a boy from Israel and I have lived in Riga for more than 3 and a half years. I learned a lot about Riga's architecture and the word "plagiarism." This project was very groupish, and I hope we will do something similar in the future. When I was working with classmates, I also learned more about them.

charlotteHi! My name is Charlotte, but everyone calls me Lotte. I come from Germany. In this project I've learned much more about Latvia, especially about the Latvian monuments. I liked doing this project, although it was sometimes hard. I would maybe like to do something similar to this again, because I learned pretty much.

julietteHello! My name is Juliette, I come from Nice, France, and I am 12 years old. I think that this project is very cool. I learned a whole lot of stuff about how life was in Latvia before. I realized that I was a very lucky girl, because some of the people we interviewed did not have a very good life. I hope that we will have another project like this in the future, because it is really fun!

lisaHello, my name is Lisa! I come from Norway. I have learned about architecture in Riga, and I learned a lot more about Riga than I already knew. I liked the project, but it was kind of hard. Yes, I would like to do something similar in the future, but about something else. I had very much fun working with my classmates.

marieHi, my name is Marie and I come from Denmark. I came to Latvia in 1999, so this is my 5th year here. I live with my sister Signe, my parents, and my dog Chilli. I have another sister, but she lives in Denmark.

I really liked this project because I learned a lot about the stories behind the monuments and statues. I also got to write a letter to the President of Latvia, which was really cool. If I ever move to another International School, or just another country, I would like to do the same. I had fun doing this, and I love writing, so it worked pretty good for me!

MartinGreetings! My name is Martin, and I come from Latvia's neighboring country, Estonia. I have truly learned a lot about the country I currently live in, Latvia. Especially about its history and landmarks. I think that it was a really good idea to join in on this project, it was very interesting and actually fun to do. I would definitely like to do something like this again next year. My favorite part of this project was the chance to work together with my friends, taking pictures of people and interviewing them.

selmaHello! My name is Selma and I come from Iceland. I have learned very many things in this project, for example the Soviets were really strict about freedom and stuff like that. I really like this project because you learn very many things about the country you live in, Latvia in my case. I would actually like to do a similar project in the future, maybe on Iceland, because I don't know much about my own country. We had lots of fun doing this project and I especially liked the interviewing part.

talHello! My name is Tal. I learned much from this project, for example about Riga, the Art Nouveau, and all the other stuff. I think that this project is very useful and it helps much to understand things written by small kids. I liked this project, but I don't think I want to do something similar in the future. I had fun doing this project, and that makes me happy!

williamHi! My name is William. I come from America, Florida to be exact. I really enjoyed working on this project. Me and my friend Alex worked together on the churches. It took a lot of time and effort. I learned a lot of stuff about the churches here that I didn't know before. Working together with Alex was the best part of the project.
