This initial area has been redesigned to work from an Index basis instead of the Scroll to the end that had been in place. Please let me know if you have suggestions for additions to the web site.
You can still scroll through this page; the index enables a quick path to an area.
Be sure to use the underline key ( _ ) between nhs and alumni If you key in any of the www names Be careful to get the upper case and / or lower case right on any www names
Pressing the Return to Top of page link will return you to this location.

The Web site has been extended to permit NHS Classes to show off photographs from their class reunions. If you have photos from a class reunion please send an e-message to me at JWKing@Mac.COM so a display can be created.

I have created a new page option for alumni to present photographs that are probably of interest to others. The first category is photographs of the current Newport. I will add other categories as you send me messages.
Newport Downtown
Bob Hesch, NHS 1943 supplied several photographs of the downtown area. Those, like me, who now longer live in the NHS area will be Ňpleasantly surprisedÓ to see these photographs of downtown. Click on BobŐs name to get to the page.
Please contribute any JPG files you have that show the new Newport. When I was there, last summer, I was really amazed at the changes in the east side of Newport.
Individual Photographs
This page is a collection of photographs / memory images that have been sent to me for posting. They will be posted and added to as received from you. Click on ŇThis pageÓ to go to the site.
Please forward any JPG images you want to share with the NHSA&A community.

Sharing Photographs
Many of you, the Class of '48 especially, have started to use E-Mail to exchange photographs or to post them on a web site for others to view.
Three options are available to help accomplish this. The more expensive option is to purchase a Digital Camera, use your computer to select your images and "improve" the image; this gets you involved in the use of skills that will be challenging at the beginning. If you are photography professional like Dan Grey, then this is a natural option. Even if you aren't a professional, many people like the ability to modify photographic images
The
middle option, which many of you are probably already doing, is to use your
scanner to capture the image of photos you have had developed in your normal
process of taking pictures with 35 mm film. Besides the cost of the scanner,
you will need to master techniques for scanning images and processing the
scanned image to produce files that are appropriate to exchange.
Too many people send out files that are larger than 300 Kbytes in size. In
general, photos for general exchange over the Internet should be under 100
Kbytes to minimize transfer time. Large files (some are almost 1000 Kbytes) are
for printing on quality printers and seldom are exchanged amongst friends.
The
least cost (starting) option is to have your 35 mm film rolls developed in a
procedure which delivers to you the normal contact prints AND a computer
useable CD or Floppy disc that contains each image in a digital format.
It is my strong recommendation that you investigate this option because of the
quality of the digital images you receive, the software options to explore if
you enjoy Cropping images, adjusting colors, etc.
I wrote an article for my computer club in March of 2000 that described this least cost / learn what is involved option. While it was written for my Apple friends, the information is applicable to my PC friends also.
The article is available in two forms. You can view the article or you can select it from the download folder. If you want to download, the file name is DigPhoto1.RTF.
