PRESIDENTÕS LETTER

Dear Members and Friends,

Due to popular requests, we are planning a Sunday afternoon General Membership meeting on February 18th, 2007, at the Newport Branch of the Campbell County Library Conference Room at 1:30 PM. The library is across the street from the school. Our speaker will be a representative from Gateway Community and Technical College. Many of our members are snowbirds whom fly south this month so call your classmates and plan to attend! Homemade desserts and beverages will be served at the meeting. Continuation of our General Membership meetings is dependent upon your participation. Our active membership is being diminished by attrition and your involvement is essential to the future success of our ongoing programs. We are blessed with substantial financial assets, however your Alumni Association requires minimal active support from the membership. We have been very diligent with awarding scholarships and incentives to our Newport High students who are making positive contributions in college and trade schools. Your efforts do make a difference in the futures of our students. Our members are invited to attend the annual Senior Awards Night at the Syndicate in May 2007, when scholarships are presented. Our students are making outstanding efforts in their academic pursuits and they deserve our encouragement and support. It is an impressive event to witness with our proud Newport families. Again, this spring we will need volunteers to assist with the Ice Cream Bar at the After Prom Party. This is another very gratifying experience with our appreciative students.

As in past years, we annually offer $1,500.00 in incentives to our students at the Newport Middle School to be used for academic endeavors. Your President conferred with Principal Upchurch, who will act as the contact person for the project, and he has proposed a new school wide program that will possibly be entitled the Four AÕs:

1.     Academics

2.     Attendance

3.     Activities

4.     Attitudes

The program will be enacted in January 2007 through the school year. Students will be recognized and rewarded through our incentive contribution. There will be a catered luncheon in the cafeteria or an individual opportunity to have lunch in an upscale community restaurant or tickets to a community event. A variety of other forms of recognition are being explored to encourage our students to excel their efforts to achieve through education. Again, your efforts are far reaching.

Mike Kehoe, Trust Officer at Citizens Bank of Northern Kentucky has agreed to visit our General Membership Meeting in May to enlighten the membership about the pros and cons of Trust Funds for non-profit organizations.
