WHERE WE STOOD AND WHERE WE STAND

In 1988, Luella Schroeder had the idea to help graduating seniors continue to college. She contacted Margaret Smith Burke and the two of them proposed that an endowment fund be established as well as other donations that would be designated for scholarships and student incentives. Gloria Shay and Wilbert Riehemann were contacted and the four of them prepared the first set of Bylaws. The initial board of directors was Luella Schroeder, Robert Schindler, and Wilbert Riehemann. In June of 1989, these three applied to the Secretary of State office for incorporation. The purpose was to start an endowment fund and give scholarships and incentives to the students. This was granted. The next step was to apply for a 501(c)(3) determinations from the IRS to allow donations to charitable organizations be included in itemized deductions. This was also granted.

By October1, 1999, the financial records reported $8,533.99 in the endowment fund. Five years later the endowment fund contains $37,561.22. We are averaging about 18 scholarships each year and sufficient incentive funds to encourage good morale among the students. We on the board realize this would not be possible without all of our membership donations. We started with an idea, and with your help, the idea grew and grew and grew. But, we still have a long way to make the endowment fund self sustaining we thank all of you, for your donations, hard work and spiritual support... Some day we will be there.

OUR NEXT MEETING

Our next Board meeting is January 13, 2005 in the teacherÕs lounge of the Newport High School. All members are welcome. Come get involved with the organization. Join in with the fun.

Our next Membership dessert meeting is February 17, 2005 at the Newport Middle School. At this meeting we will have Scott Draud, principal of NHS as the speaker. ALL CLASS REUNION DINNER DANCE & INSTALLATION

The All Class Reunion Dinner Dance and Installation was a great success with 151 persons attending. With some nice donations we were able to report a profit of $393.50. Without these donations we would have made $93.50 or $.62perperson attending. We try to provide a nice evening out at a minimum cost. Some we not happy about the food, but the Coconut Grove has promised to do better the next time. Remember the date, September 18, 2005. Lois Gore and Bettie Root Hesch were awarded a Life Membership for their service to the Alumni. Charlet Hiteman Schrader was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation for her continued support of the Alumni.

PATRON FUND

This is a way you can show your appreciation for the education you received from Newport High School. Your contribution adds to the majority of funds raised for scholarships given each year. We can help others not as fortunate as us to help their dreams come true. Many thanks to all. The Patrons ad raises much of this fund for the scholarships and incentives. WE hope to raise enough to meet our budget of $15,500.00 for scholarships and incentives. Many thanks also to Mary Lou Schmidt for all her hard work to raise these funds for schlorship's.

SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED
