A MESSAGE FROM YOUR PRESIDENT
A couple years ago when the bylaws were revised, they were done so with the membership in mind. That makes all of you, meaning all members and those who support us, the most important people in our association. We on the Board act on your behalf, helping the students with scholarships and incentives to give them an opportunity to make a better world for themselves and eventually for their children. To this we want to say a huge Thank You.
Our board meetings are not closed to the membership. Please feel free to attend any board meeting and to edify your desire as to what is occurring. When you visit, feel free to ask any question that you have in mind. Our meetings are open with no secrets. We encourage your attendance with your advice, thoughts, and questions.
Recently, for your use, we have established a website. Jerry King, class of 1953 is our Webmaster. The web address is <http:/homepage.mac.com/nhs_alumni/>. Jerry will apply linkage to the various articles from this entry address.
It is yours, so use it.
I wish to thank all of you for your support of the students of both the middle school and the high school.
Your President,
ELECTION OF OFFICERS
Come to the meeting and meet your new officers, President George Gore '51, Vice President Tim McCarthy '78, Program Director Betty Walker Johnson '41. The candidates elected shall serve for the fiscal year 2003-2005, starting October 1, 2003 for two years
OUR NEXT MEMBERSHIP MEETING MAY 20, 2004
The next membership meeting will be held at the Newport High School. This is a dinner meeting and enclosed is the reservation form. YOU MUST MAKE RESERVATIONS. You have the choice of roast beef or grilled chicken. Also you must select your choice of dessert, apple pie or coconut cream pie. The cost of the dinner is $9.00 and will be catered by Green Derby Restaurant. Our speaker following dinner will be Lane Mason, metrologist, with station WKRC TV. A short business meeting will follow. Remember dinner at 6:30 PM.
NOMINATION OF OFFICERS
The Nominating Committee has been appointed and will report its selection at this May meeting. Tim McCarty is Chairman, and serving with him are Jim Hesch and Janet Enzweiler Hewling. The offices to be voted upon are Treasurer, Secretary, and Publicity Director. Nominations can be made from the floor or contact Tim if you or anyone you know might be interested in one of these offices.
CLASS REPRESENTATIVES
Did you graduate in any of the following classes? We are missing representatives for the classes of 1952, 1971,1973, 1981, 1984, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1996,1998,1999, and 2001, 2002. If one of the above classes includes your graduating class, please consider calling Mary Lou Schmidt to volunteer to serve 859-441-1530. This is a good way to keep informed of your classmates.
INQUIRIES FOR CLASS REUNIONS
At times graduates try to find out if the class is going to have a reunion. Sometimes they call the High School or the Board of Education. These calls are usually referred to the Alumni. If you do not keep us informed of your plans, we cannot help the individuals. We are trying to post reunions and get-togethers in the Newsletter. Just let us know and we will list your reunion or get-together in the section with all the other reunions or get-togethers planned.
CHANGE OF ADDRESSES
We put two labels on to save postage for couples except when balloting, then individual letters are sent with ballots. The label tells when your dues are paid. If not correct notify Mary Lou Schmidt.
MEMBERSHIP OCTOBER 1,2003-SEPTEMBER 30, 2004
Mary Lou is soliciting membership for this fiscal year. Thanks to all who send in their dues. LetÕs keep up the good work and support the NHS Alumni. Five dollars is a small amount to ask. If you have not joined yet, do so now.
AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE TO REUNION COMMITTEES
In the past too few of the younger graduates have attended these functions. Inquire about the Alumni and see if we can make your reunion more enjoyable. This is your organization. LetÕs enjoy it.
Please consider the All Class Reunion and Dance to celebrate your reunion. No problem, send in your reservations, get your group together, good food, nice music and all planning is arranged. If you care to join the committee you are welcome.

YOUR CLASS REPS NEED TO REPORT
To provide the information our readers want to know, our Class Reps need to provide the information to the editor. Many people inquire why they have no news from your class. The only answer I can give is, if you give me news, I will try to include it in the Newsletter. Most grads not only want to be informed of deceased classmates, but also would like to hear from classmates including information of people they do not see often. Shut-ins would appreciate hearing of your health problems, travel, or other items of interest. Send a card or phone call while they are recuperating. If you have any information you would like to share with your class or friends,! contact me direct at Bob Hesch, 21 Audubon Place, Ft. Thomas, KY 41075 or phone 859-441-0695. My E- mail address is RLHESCH@FUSE.NET .

JOHN TURNER NIGHT
Newport High School honored John Turner class of 1957 with a special night February 26, at half time of the basketball game.
He was all state athlete at NHS in both football and basketball. He was all American basketball player at the University of Louisville and played professionally for Chicago in the NBA.
At the ceremony, he was awarded a plaque to be placed on permanent display in the trophy case at the school.
John is now residing at the Newport Baptist Home, 120 Main Street, Newport, KY 41071. I am sure he would like to hear from you.
IF WE BUILD IT WILL COME BACK- EVEN BETTER!!
Many of us remember the theatre at NHS. This theatre provided many opportunities for the students to develop their theatrical and musical talents. The loss of the theatre was a devastating blow to the Arts at NHS. Yes, we can still put on a play in a larger classroom or a band concert in the gym, but it is not the same
Talk is cheap! But how can we have a new theatre for NHS. First we had to put this dream in motion. A fund was established through the Greater Cincinnati Foundation to contribute to the Newport High School Theatre Fund. The fund is now at approximately $7000.00! We had hoped the University of Cincinnati School of Architecture would adopt this as a class project, but that has fallen through. Our committee lacks the expertise to make the drawings and a model of our dream. Once in place we can work on grants, gifts and fundraisers for the theatre. We envision a 600-seat theatre, attached to the Seventh Street end of the school. This facility will have dressing rooms, prop rooms, and practice rooms, and to have a fly system for scenery and back drops. The theatre can be used for plays, musicals, variety shows, concerts, and assemblies. It will facilitate large group instruction, special performances, talks, or presentations from outside sources.
If you can donate your talents to this project it would be greatly appreciated!
