Kirkcowan 1987

The first ever golf holiday was in Kirkcowan in SW Scotland. We went there as a result of a rash offer from Shona’s parents to let us use their house as a base. Among the team were Fritz, Gavin, Keith, Tony, Colin and Alan. If anyone else was there let Fritz know and I’ll update the site.

My memory is now addled from years of over indulgence but I remember us playing Portpatrick on a pissing wet day and Turnberry on a beautiful day. I think we also played courses at Wigtown and Kirkcudbright - anybody else remember anything about the golf. Most (all) evenings were spent in the local pub in Kirkcowan and I can recall a great deal of pool being played.

There was a very competitive game played at Portpatrick(details anyone?) and the day at Turnberry featured Gavin on the first tee telling the world ‘I never slice’. He then proceeded to hit a belter of a slice into the gable end of a nearby house. It was the beginning of his long and illustrious career in the Osnaburg Golf Society!
