Isle of Man 1989

The trip to the Isle of Man ought to have been a trip down memory lane for the former Watt footballers in the Osnaburg Golf Society. It was where we went for Easter football tournaments. However as we were always so drunk most of us have little recollection of what we did there. And I’m proud to say the golf holiday maintained that proud tradition, at least for me. I’ve got no recollection of getting there and practically none of what we did there.

However, there was at least one unforgettable moment. It was Steph’s first golf holiday and on the first tee on the first day he stepped up to his ball and belted it out of bounds into the rough - the ball was clearly lost. He turned to his colleagues and with a completely straight face asked if anyone had a ball he could borrow! The rest of us collapsed in laughter  - he had only brought ONE golf ball with him.  I suppose Steph has always been an optimist - you can’t play centre half for the Watt if you’re not.

Apart from that I do remember getting thrown off a course for playing a threeball sixsome,Keithcrashing a hire car and playing a cracking links course in pouring rain. Can anyone help me fill out the details? E-mail Fritz

24.8.03 - Stef has e-mailed some more details of the holiday. We flew from Glasgow but the flight was so short we were being served our drinks as the plane flew into Douglas. Stef and I shared a room and he tells me that I refused to share my toothbrush with him! The cracking course we played in the rain was Castleton and Stef had to fork out £30 on a rain jacket as he didn't think we'd be stupid enough to play in these conditions.

I also now remember that despite hangovers, Stef and I feasted on wonderful Manx kippers for breakfast most mornings!
