Process Task 1: Examining the novels and preparing the Preliminary Annotated Reference List

  1. In the library, look at as many of the recommended novels as possible. Read the information on the dust covers, talk to others who may have heard of or read the novels or other works by the author, and read at least two sample pages.
  2. Narrow your choices to at least four novels.
  3. Fill in information for the (minimum) four novels on the Selection Work Sheet provided in class.
  4. Following the formatting information for print sources given in the John McCrae Style Guide, prepare a Reference List for the four novels.
  5. Prepare an annotation for each novel on the list, in which you briefly (3-4 sentences) detail the process that led to your including the novel on your short list.

Use this Sample Annotated Reference List as a model for the list you hand in. Note that the McCrae Style Guide is the official document for referencing primary and secondary source materials. In cases where the sample reference list and the McCrae Style Guide differ, the Style Guide is the final arbiter.

Final choices will be made 17 February 2003. The order in which students will select their choices will be set by lottery.
