Stop Deforestation

The Maya Biosphere Reserve is located in the Peten-Caribbean lowland region, where much of the forest is still covered by dense broad-leaved vegetation. The wildlife is rich and varied, with such animals as jaguars, tapirs, monkeys, and peccaries. At least one-half of Guatemala's 664 bird species live in these forests including the world's largest eagle, the Harpy Eagle.

Peten, Guatemala

A stark before-and-after display of forest destruction. This logger is cutting down all of the trees of this primary forest to transform the area into a cornfield.
