Welcome to SPAZ!
What is SPAZ? The Shasta Pups Air Zone is a casual group of people who love discs and dogs. We gather socially and to learn more about this growing sport.
The club is currently inactive. At one time we had a small group of people who met weekly and this may resume if interest warrants it. The birth of Michelle and Nathan's twin girls in May 2006 also slowed things down a bit! I am still happy to meet with interested individals and groups. Shanti is expected to compete in '07 throughout the North State.
What is the level of play? We are not a competitive team. We exist to introduce new people and pups to disc sports and to provide an opportunity for competition dogs to practice, learn, and have fun.
Are there competitions? See the Events link for specific dates.
What are the competitions like? There are two basic competitions: Toss & Fetch and Freestyle. Toss and fetch involves the dog retrieving the disc in a limited amount of time, typically with extra points for distance and leaping. Freestyle is a choreographed routine set to music, much like figure skating or skateboarding. Dogs often vault off their owners to achieve great height and lots of drama! Before vaulting, you might want to attend a SPAZ meeting to learn basic safety.
Who do I contact about SPAZ? Nate or Michelle Fairchild at spazpups@charter.net
