COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course is for psychology majors, behavioral science majors and
others who desire a broad overview of general principles. Topics
include the scientific method, statistics, biological determinants and
general processes of behavior such as development, learning, verbal
behavior, intelligence, perception, motivation, emotion, personality
and mental health
(ARC Catalog).

This course is web-enhanced: for this course, that means the class meets 100% of the time in the classroom located on the ARC campus, and students access supplemental materials, assignments, and submit coursework online. Tests are taken in the classroom.


REQUIREMENTS:

  • Student Skills: Students are expected to have the knowledge of, ability to use, and access to resources that will allow them to successfully complete a web-enhanced course.

Potential Students, Please Note:
For students with minimal computer skills who wish to take a web-enhanced psychology course, please first take one of the introductory computer courses available through the Computer Information Science department rather than a course that requires students to already possess computers skills. There are many campus-based psychology sections available that are not web-enhanced, if that is your preference.

  • Textbook:  Myers, David G. (2007). Psychology, Eighth Edition, in Modules. NY: Worth Publishers.  Students may use either the eBook OR the traditional textbook for this course:

The textbook will be available at the start of the semester through the ARC Library's Reserves area for 2-hour study periods for students who do not own their own books: Library Reserves

  • Moodle Account supported by someprofs.org of ARC and SCC.  For this course , the use of Moodle is required.  Students enrolled in the course will receive log in information via their iMail accounts just prior to the start of the semester.
  • An activated iMail account is required for this course.

    All e-mail messages from me will be sent to your student iMail account.

    Please, ensure that your iMail account is activated before the first day of classes.

    Students are held responsible for all information sent to their iMail accounts. 

    Students may set up iMail accounts to forward all messages to a preferred email address.

  • Publisher’s Web Site Account:  A link is provided in the Orientation area on Moodle beginning on the first day of classes.

  • 5 Scantron forms (#882-E) and a number 2 pencil for tests.

  • Hardware/Software Requirements & Recommendations:   The following software programs and plug-ins are required for this course.

WHAT TO EXPECT IN THIS COURSE:

 

        college campus image    +    computer image = Web-enhanced

    • My campus classes are "web enhanced".  This means that students meet in the traditional classroom for lectures, activities, and tests, and that the Internet is used to enhance the classroom work, e.g., supplemental materials are found on Moodle and students submit assignments via Moodle. 

    • The use of Moodle for this course is REQUIRED.  Computers are available on Los Rios campuses for student use. Moodle may also be accessed through students' home computers.

    • Each unit is comprised of weekly assignments and activities, e.g., textbook reading, online lectures, online demonstrations, and so on.  


    • Graded Assignments: written work and multiple-choice tests.

    • Important documents (e.g., syllabus, assignment descriptions, grading criteria) can be found on the Moodle site on the first day of classes.

    Those on the waiting list for my web-enhanced courses will be considered for enrollment on the first and second day of classes.

    • Please come to the classroom on the first day of classes to give me your name.
    • Students on the waiting list who do not show on the first day of class will be moved to the bottom of the waiting list.
    • I will take students if there is room in the class beginning on day 2 of classes and based on the order they appear on the waiting list.
