Jasper Launch is Y2K Compliant

As you probably have heard, when Jan. 1, 2000 rolls around, computers across the country which are non Y2K compliant stand a good chance of crashing. This is not going to happen at our Jasper launch. As of the end of November, the beautiful launch overlooking the Grand Canyon Of Arkansas has been cleared and is safe to launch. Gunther reports that the trees below launch need a little chainsaw work for the launch to be perfect though so if you happen to have one and plan on getting to launch early enough for a little work then you would be doing every pilot a great favor by cutting down a few of the troublesome trees. C.A.M.P. Member Buys House

Phil Morgan has begun the process of buying the house right next to the Mt. Nebo Florida Field and wants everyone to know that they are welcome to drop by and say hello anytime. This is the house with the two white rocks at the driveway entrance. It is only tentative at this time but he also would like to have the annual C.A.M.P. Christmas party/ Club meeting there also. His wife says that December 12 would not be a good date because of a Christmas program but a firm date and location will be announced at a later time.

C.A.M.P. Purchases herbicide for NE Launch

The club has written a check to the Arkansas State Park to pay for herbicide which was used to control the tree shoots coming up from the cleared area below the NE launch. This special herbicide targets woody plants and does minimal damage to the wildflowers and grasses also growing in the area. It is hoped that the grasses will keep other trees from sprouting in the near future and that the chemical will not have to be applied too soon.

Jeff Sinason wants to visit Arkansas

Jeff Sinason, our representative for region 6, has expressed an interest in visiting Arkansas whenever we have our next meeting. It is a shame that the meeting will be in December or January when the flying is not very good but at least we will have a chance to meet him in person. There will likely be some lively discussions during this meeting so if you have some specific concerns that you would like to discuss, it might be a good idea to write them down so that you don't get so caught up in other people's concerns that an opportunity to discuss your own passes by.
