Mr. Goodner's Bailout LZ

I landed in this LZ on October 15, 1998 while trying to make it to the Havana LZs and fighting an east headwind. I could have turned around and landed in one of the shabby looking fields near the road but I felt confident that I could safely land in this field and was hopeful that I would not have to carry the glider very far to the road. I was a little confused as to where the road was because I kept thinking that I saw anothere road to the south but North of the ridge by Hwy. 10. It turns out that what I was seeing was the old railroad bed (Chicago Rock Island and Pacific) which apparently hasn't completely over grown with trees in the twenty or thirty years since it has been abandoned. The private road to this field connects at the NE corner by the shed. Luck was with me because it would have been a couple of hundred yard carry to the road if the owner hadn't showed up and opened the gate for us just as we were beginning the walk in.  The best way I know to tell you how to get there is to follow the dirt road west of Havana (County road 33) past the slanty field and past the chicken barn field. After the road veers west it will be the first private road (with a gate) on the left.
