The Interactive Student Notebook consists of an 8-1/2 x 11 inch spiral notebook.

Students will need glue to attach handouts to the notebook.

Right-side, Left-side Orientation

The right side of the notebook is the input side. Teacher notes, class notes, discussion notes, and reading notes go on this side.

The left side of the notebook is the output side. This is where the students process new ideas and improve understanding by using illustrations, diagrams, flow charts, poetry, colors, matrices, cartoons, journal entries, and other activities.

The left-side, right-side orientation improves learning for the following reasons:

  • Students use both their visual and linguistic intelligence.
  • Note-taking becomes an active process.
  • Students' creativity is unleashed.
  • Notebooks help students to systematically organize as they learn.
  • Notebooks become a portfolio of individual learning.

Students will number the pages of their Interactive Student Notebooks the first day of class. Page numbering is extremely important.

EVEN numbered pages (0, 2, 4, 6, 8) are on the LEFT.

ODD numbered pages (1, 3, 5, 7, 9) are on the RIGHT.

Make sure the pages are numbered correctly!!!

Here are some samples of the first pages. Click on the icon to see a larger picture.
