Why We Shouldn’t Watch TV 2So the reason we were watching this abortion of a
program was that George Carlin was going to be on, and the thought of Carlin
taking on Hannity.... Well, as some of you may have noticed, Shooting Fish In A
Barrel is the official sport of the Museum of Stupidity. Of course, it turns
out, Sean’s out of town, and the interview was conducted entirely by the
hideous Mr. Colmes.
So Carlin goes on for several minutes about why doesn’t vote, and why he doesn’t give a shit that humanity is swirling down the toilet, and how pathetic the FCC’s current obsession with profanity and obsession is, making it clear every step of the way that he doesn’t give a damn about parties, that the Dems suck as hard as the Republicans, and that the illusion of choice is the thing that keeps everyone stupid. Colmes wraps up the interview, and they cut to Hannity, who’s presumably coming to us via satellite from whatever Bund rally he’s attending in down in Dick Cheese, Arksansas, and he says this: “I hate to shatter Carlin’s illusion, but the person who’s leading the person who’s leading the charge against indecency at the FCC is a Democrat.” In our business, this is called “Giving up your shit.” Hannity has just admitted to two things with this statement: 1) He doesn’t watch his own program; and 2) He believes everything is a partisan issue. Not only that, he can’t conceive of anyone being any other way. No matter how much Carlin specified that he’s not a Democrat, hates Democrats and doesn’t give a damn about parties, when someone criticizes a bunch of cultural scolds, Hannity immediately leaps to the defense of his party. Which doesn’t say much for his credibility, now, does it? Posted: Fri - March 26, 2004 at 10:55 AM |
