Liam in In Style magazine (July 2005 issue, English edition)a two page article on Liam with 2 black and white
pictures. Caitlin typed the article up. Thank
you!
I digitized the article and the pictures. See below. Man of Style: Liam Neeson Dressed in a tweedy sport coat, his hair the color of steel, Liam Neeson looks more like a handsome New England college professor than the hunky Irish ex-boxer turned movie star that he is. Yet his mix of emotional and physical presence had given the 53-year-old actor the range to star in weighty dramas like 'Kinsey' and 'Schindlers List' as well as two new summer blockbusters, 'Kingdom of Heaven' and 'Batman Begins'. And at 6-foot 4, this father of two sons [with his wife of 11 years, actress Natasha Richardson] has just the right stature for his next role: Abraham Lincoln. Do you have any shopping 'fetishes'? 'Festish' would be too strong a word. But I do love good shoes. A shoe has just got to give me a feeling of stability. I'm not good at running around in sneakers. When I was a teenager I would work at building sites --I needed good boots with steel toes. Today I love hand made Italian shoes. I have a pair so beautiful that I'm afraid to wear them. There's a place in London called Tricker's that has beautiful shoes. They've been there since the 1800s. Otherwise, do you like to shop for clothes? I'm absolutely dyslexic in a shop. I could be in front of a rack of jeans and shirts and I'll still be looking for jeans and shirts. It's a real issue. I get the same way in supermarkets. I'm looking for a pint of carrots, and I get fazed. My wife goes into stores and just figures everything out. She'll shop for me when she's out in L.A. at Fred Segal or something. What are you wearing now? Georgio Armani. I feel so loyal. I love how he designs for men. He totally understands contour, no matter what your shape or size. He makes a man look twice as good. So then you have a closetful of Armani? Yeah, I do. It's getting bit embarrassing. Whose wardrobe takes up more space at home--you or your wife? We're blessed--we have his-and-her closets. But she has got me beat. Any style icons you can think of? Oscar Wilde had great, fantastic style. For the period he was so outrageous. And nobody could touch his wit. It's part of what he wore and what he spoke. Are you a reader? I'm avid. Three or four books at a time. And with computers, I can read newspapers all day. I'll tell myself, "I'd just love to read The Irish Times." And then, "I'll just finish this article". And two hours later I'm still reading some other article. Do your sons take any fashion cues from you? They're 8 and 10 yers old. Right now they're very into Quicksilver--the long T-shirt with trousers trailing three inches behind them. As a parent I want to get behind them and pull their pants up, but a) it would embarrass them and b) it would be so uncool. Speaking of uncool, I hear you have an ambivalence cars. I don't understand them. I didn't get my driving license until I was 31. I was doing a movie outside London--it was myself and five guys as Robin Hood and his merry men on a distant planet. We had to make our way out to Pinewood Studios on our own, so I got my license and gave everyone rides. How do you stay fit these days? I run and I have a daily gym routine. I do it by myself, I can't work out with a trainer; it has to be a personal thing. It's very important to me I get in and out in 62 minuites. And it's forgotten. What's your favorite pastime? I fly fish as much as I can. Every so often I'll see a rod I want--it can get very pricey, especially for the handmade ones of split cane, which can go for $1,500. There's a company called Thomas & Thomas and also Hardy in England. I haven't fished extensively in the U.S., though there is a place in Pennsylvania called Spring Creek with chalk streams--rivers flowing over chalk tend to be very pure and the fish grow to incredible sizes. Otherwise, I've fished in New Zealand, Ireland, Patagonia in Argentina, Canada. Could this mean that somewhere there's a photograph of Liam Neeson in one of those fishing caps with lures all over it? I'm always tempted to do that because it's the best place to keep them, but no, it's such a cliche.
