A.T.
for Learning Environments
It's obvious to
progressive educators that all students can become
better learners--the real question is, what tools,
interventions, and methods can empower
them?
• Use these tools to help students sharpen critical
thinking skills, develop strategies, and alter their
attitudes toward independent learning
• Recognize that the 'window of opportunity' for
students is not on learning potential, it’s on the
desire to be a learner
• Understand that the medical model doesn't define the
disability for the person, it is how it personally
impacts a specific life that we must address
• Listen to a student’s perceptions of his/her
challenges and find the tools and strategies to empower
him/her to address them
• Master your tools so that they work for you—they
don’t “fix” the child, your intervention with the
student matters far more
All
of these Challenges can be Supported in the Classroom
• Learning
Disabilities & Neurological Challenges
• Access for Physical Disabilities
• Communication Needs
• Hearing & Visual Needs
