Glossary

Information on this issue is spotty and need to be improved.

Regarding chopstick materials:

  • Do bamboo chopsticks use renewable bamboo or do they impact sensitive old bamboo forests (possibly panda habitat)?
  • What are the relative ecological costs and merits of melamine (plastic) and stainless steel?
  • Is it possible to make chopsticks out of recycled food-grade plastic?

We also need to find out more about:

  • aspen/poplar forest ecology
  • impact in the Philippines, Indonesia and elsewhere
  • numbers and patterns of chopstick use in the US, Korea, Europe and elsewhere
