Robert Lee Frost

- Born on March 26, 1874 in San Francisco, California.
Son of Isabelle Moodie and William Prescott Frost Jr.
- Father dies of tuberculosis on May 5, 1885. Family moves
in with grandparents.
- In 1890, his first published poem, "La Noche Triste"
appears in the Lawrence High School Bulletin in April. A second
poem, "The Song of the Wave," appears in the Bulletin
in May.
- In 1892 he becomes ingaged to Elinor White.
- In 1894 The Independant published his poem,"My
Butterfly: an Elergy."
- 1895 Marries Elinor White in Lawrence in December in
ceremony conducted by Swedenborgian pastor.
- 1896 Son Elliot is born.
- Publishes poem "Greece" in the Boston Evening
Transcript.
- 1899 Daughter Lesley is born on April 28.
- 1900 Elliot dies of cholera and is buried.
- 1901Grandfather, William Prescott Frost, dies; his will
gives Frost a$500 annuity and use of the Derry farm for ten years.
- 1902 Son Carol is born.
- 1903 Daughter Irma is born.
- 1906 Publishes poem"The Tuft of Flowers" in
the Derry Enterprise.
- 1907-8 Writes poem "The Later Minstrel" for
the Pinkerton celebration of the 100th anniversary of Longfellow's birth.
Daughter Elinor Bettina is born on June 18 and dies on June 21, 1907.
- 1909 Poem 'Into Mine Own" appears in New England
Magazine.
- 1913 ABoy's Will is published in April
and is favorably reviewed.
- 1914 North of Boston is published by David
Nutt and Company.
- 1915 A Boy's Will is published by Henry
Holt and Company in April.
- 1923 Selected Poemsis published by Henery
Holt. New Hampshire with woodcuts by J. J. Lankes, is published
by Henery Holt.
- 1924 Awarded the Pulitzer Prize for New Hampshire.
- 1928 West-running Brook is published in
November by Holt.
- 1930 Collected Poems is published by Holt.
- 1931 Awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Collected Poems
in June. Recieves Russell Loines Poetry Prize from the National
Institute o Arts and Letters in December.
- 1936 A Further Range is published by Holt.
- 1937 Wins Pulitzer Prize for A Further Range.
- 1938 Elinor dies of heart failure in Gainesville, Florida,
on March 20.
- 1940 Son, Carol committs suicide on October 9.
- 1942 A Witness Tree is
published by Holt.
- 1943 Awarded Pulitzer Prize for A Witness Tree.
He becomes the first person to receive the Prize four times.
- 1945 A Masque of Reason is Published by
Holt on March 26.
- 1947 Steeple Bush is published by Holt
on May 28. A Masque of Mercy is published by Holt in November.
- 1949 Complete Poems of Robert Frost 1949 is
published by Holt on May 30.
- 1953 Awarded the Fellowship of the Acadamy of American
Poets.
- 1954 Holt publishes Aforesaid.
- 1962 In the Clearing is published by Holt,
Rinehart and Winston, on his birthday, March 26.
- 1963 Learns on January 3 that he has been awarded the
Bollingen Prize for Poetry. Dies shortly after midnigh on January 29. Private
memorial service for friends and family is held in the Appleton Chapel
in Harvard Yard on January 31, and public service is held at Johnson Chapel,
Amherst College, on February 17. Ashes are interred in the Frost family
plot in Old Bennington on June 16.
