1632 Timeline

In May 2000(?), someone posted a timeline for "1632" to Baen's Bar.

I have revised it a bit, and the page references are now to the Baen paperback edition.

Dates are in the Gregorian calendar, dates without paranthesis are fixed dates, those in paranthesis are estimated or inferred dates.

Evidence and reasoning in italics. Real placenames in Bold text.

Notice: This timeline assumes that Grantville arrived in Germany at the same (Gregorian) date, but many years earlier, as when it left West Virginia.

If that is not the case then the "Ring of Fire" could have happened somewhat earlier in the year in Grantville, and somewhat later in the (much earlier) year in Germany.

What if Grantville arrived in Germany 1631 on another date than it left "our time"?

In Germany 1631 the "Ring of Fire" must still have happenened some days after the sack of Magdeburg on May 20 Gregorian style.

And more than 21 days before the battle of the Crapper on June 30. The Police chief had recovered enough to be on duty with his arm still in a sling when Frank showed the M-60 "less than three weeks" before the battle (ch. 16 p. 166 pb). I take that to be 17-20 days. And since the Police chief was still in bed 3 days after the "Ring of Fire", 21 days is an absolute minimum, it was probably at least 25 days, maybe 30-35 days.

But what about the Grantville date?

At the cabinet meeting 3 days after the "Ring of Fire" (ch. 8 p. 103 pb) they talk about "next month's High School graduating class". So it could have been any time between early April (HS graduation late May) to late May (HS graduation early June).

At the cabinet meeting on the evening of June 30 1631 (day of Crapper battle) Jeff says that he is about to graduate (ch. 25 p. 243 pb). This might mean that according to the Grantville calendar it is still no later than early June, but it could also mean that HS graduation has been delayed.
