Astronomy Web Pages 2003

1) Finding Sources: Use the internet to find sources that have high quality information about your topic. Try to find sources that will be accurate and current. You are looking for science information, so it should come from scientists, scientific periodicals, or science organizations, such as NASA or the Planetary Society.

Use Netscape Navigator to search the internet
Take notes of information and website addresses and names
Use books and Magazines to gain more information

When searching, use websites that are rich with information before you go to the search engines. Focus on websites that will have Astronomy information.

2) Designing the page: You will design a web page that thoroughly describes your topic, and also provides links to other web sites with additional information. Use Netscape Composer to create the page, save it in the appropriate folder for your class. Use Netscape Navigator to continue searching the internet.

In order to do this, you will need to formulate probing questions. Think about the reasons why people might want to look at your web page. What questions would they want to answer? You should include these questions (5 or so) at the beginning of your page.
You'll compile your information into a logical format. We are not making lists. We are making pages that contain thorough descriptions. You should also be careful that you are not just copying or plagiarizing others' sites. This should look something like a well written essay, including facts as well as your own ideas and opinions.
Figure out the colors and arrangement of the information on your page before you sit down to try to make it. Don't spend all of your time changing the appearance.
You will choose important words within your description to make links out of. The links should make sense. If you click on word, you should be taken to a site with more information about that word or idea.
You will create 10 links minimum.
Lastly, work on the appearance of the page. Do not work on the appearance of your page until the page is nearly done. Then you can work on colors and adding pictures. Be sure you only use pictures that are available for public use (such as those from NASA)

3) Create a bibliography for your page. Be sure to include all of the websites, books, and magazines you used as sources.
