Santorini - Oia
Today we went to the island of Santorini…
It was once a huge volcanic island in 3000 BC… However there was a violent
eruption / earthquake and the middle of it sunk into the sea… So now there
are a series of crescent shaped islands surrounding the “Caldara” in
the middle… We first visited a town called Oia (pronounced EE-AH)…
It was very picturesque lots of white houses on the cliff and what not… We
enjoyed some tasty pistachio nuts which grow on the island and wondered the
maze-like streets… Next we went to a local winery and enjoyed some tasty
tasty wines red, white, and some different desert wine thing it was good
too… The view from the winery was crazy because it was built on a sheer
cliff…
After that we wondered the streets of the Fira
(fera?) we then took a donkey ride back down to a boat which returned us to the
ship… The guy who ran the donkey business was a jerk… He hit Nats
donkey in the face with a stick because he (the owner) pulled the donkey into
another donkey hurting Nat’s leg… I was ready to slap him with a
stick… Anyway now we’re back on board the boat heading to
Istanbul… and we’re off to dinner… how many courses will Bill
eat tonight?
