Red Tail Hawk

This red tailed hawk was sitting on our roof this afternoon. Its mate was sitting on the roof of the next house over - they were calling back and forth. I took the inset photo as it flew away.

I saw this bird sitting on another house down the street friday where a number of birds were trying to drive it off. Well, at least they were trying to drive it off. They were raising quite a ruckus but the hawk wasn't being driven away and was pretty much ignoring the other birds completely.

A day for baseball

Peter and I went to a Columbus Clippers game today. It was nice and sunny, though a little chilly in the shade. The Clippers won 4 to 3.

National Aviary

At the end of the Pittsburgh trip we stopped by the National Aviary. They have a nice collection of birds and we were able to catch a couple of instructional talks while we were there. This photo is of Peter just after he fed the cormorant (the bird sitting on the blue cart) a fish.

New digs in PIttsburgh

Peter joined me on a short trip to see the new Apple office in PIttsburgh. Folks aren't really settled in yet, but it's clear that the new office is a vast improvement over the old one. Above is the view out one of the windows.

Snowy Weekend

Winter has finally returned to central Ohio after taking the month of January off. We got a little snow this weekend - just enough to cover the ground and make it look wintery.

Still, the snow wasn't enough to entice us out to make snowmen or go sledding, so we stayed inside and did a jigsaw puzzle. It had way too many blue pieces, but we persevered and completed it in time to free up the table for our usual Sunday night snackies.

OYAA Basketball Begins

Peter and Tyler's Basketball season began Saturday. They both played well and were cheered on by their very own cheering section.

Christmas Kitty

The Peirce household has donned all it's holiday trimmings. The outdoor lights are aglow. The Advent Calendar is counting down the days 'til Christmas. The Christmas tree is up and decorated.

And of course Dot has decided that under the tree is the perfect spot for a late winter's nap.

road trip to ikea 

Peter is ready for an updated bedroom (he's turning eleven you know). So we took a road trip to the Ikea store outside of Pittsburgh to see what we could do about that.

Looking at their products in mock rooms at their store is so so much better than trying to imagine how things look from their (fairly lame) website. We didn't buy, but Peter has a good idea on what he wants. The wheels have be put into motion and he'll have a redone bedroom soon enough.
