Mulching with leaf compost

Almost everyone here in Central Ohio puts mulch on their beds around the yard, we do the same. But rather than the usual bark or hardwood mulch that most people use, we use composed leaves. It looks great and it really improves the soil as it decomposes. After using this for a few years, we have the most wonderful garden soil you've ever seen - not the hard nasty clay we started with. If anything is, this is the secret of our gardening success here in Lewis Center.

We buy it by the truckload from Kurtz Brothers- they deliver. This year we bought 10 cubic yards, which will take us a few days to haul around the yard. A bit of a chore, but it really pays off later in the season. And its a good workout.
