Pedestal Rocks

What's a camping trip without some kind of
little problem? This time our air mattress decided to start
leaking, so in the middle of the night Stacey and I found that
either our hips or tailbones were resting on hard ground while
everything else was elevated by a half-full air mattress. Then
Cliff and I got out of bed at the crack of dawn and the reduced
pressure meant that Stacey and Grant were basically on hard
ground everywhere.
I built a much-needed fire and made some
even more-needed coffee then set off to reshoot some of my
flower photos, while Brad and Cliff stayed to play with the
fire. I came back an hour later to find everyone up and
breakfast waiting for me.
Then we all got in the trucks and headed up
to Pedestal Rocks. I've been waiting almost a full year to see
the place. Last May when I was there the fog and foliage hid
much of the view. Pedestal Rocks is way too amazing for me to
try to describe. It's one of our state's most miraculous
natural wonders, and if you haven't seen it you owe it to
yourself to make a visit.
We had lunch at the picnic table near the
parking area, then made the short drive so everybody could see
Falling Water Falls. I had planned to shoot video there too,
but there was a family having a picnic right beside the
waterfall and I didn't think they'd want a camcorder pointed at
them.
By the time we got back to the campground,
took down camp, loaded the trucks and drove home it was nearly
5 p.m. I know I was worn out from the weekend's adventure, but
it was a great first camping trip of the year and I look
forward to many more just like it.
