3,000 cases. 20 people have died:

A 26 year old pregnant woman from Alexandria; a 30 year old man in Cairo; 25 year old woman from Daqahliyah governorate; a 23 year old woman from Giza governorate; a 24 year old pregnant woman in Giza governorate; a 9 year old boy in Hilwan governorate; a 36 year old woman from Ismailia governorate; a 24 year old pregnant woman from Sharqia governorate; a 25 year old woman had died after returning from Saudi Arabia; a 48 year old woman.

A 30-year old woman from the Qaliubiya governorate became ill in early March 2006 and died March 17. H5N1 infection was confirmed. Another 30 year old woman, also from the Qaliubiya governorate became ill on March 12 2006. She died on March 21. H5N1 infection was confirmed.

A 39 year old woman from the Gharbiya governorate became ill on September 30 2006. She died on October 30. A viral sample was isolated from a throat swab was collected in October 2006 and sequenced (A/Egypt/12374-NAMRU3/2006).

A 30 year old woman, 15(16) year old girl and 26 year old man, all from the same family, from the Gharbiya governorate died in December 2006. The 16 year old girl died on December 25, 2006. A viral sample was isolated from a throat swab was collected in December 2006 (A/Egypt/14725-NAMRU3/2006). Her uncle, the 26 year old man, died on December 28, 2006. A viral sample was isolated from a throat swab was collected in December 2006 (A/Egypt/14724-NAMRU3/2006). The girl and her uncle had both been treated with Tamiflu. Viral samples from these two patients had mutations consistent with resistance to Tamiflu.
