Welcome
to Mobiusmagazine.com, the brand new e-version of Mobius: The Journal
of Social Change. Established in 1989, Mobius strives to publish challenging
fiction and poetry that deals with social change as a primary and
secondary theme. We've been asked many times what we mean when we
say social change, and we've never really been able to provide a proper
answer. Pretty much, to paraphrase Supreme Court Justice Douglas,
we know a Mobius story when we see one. Writing that offers some form
of social commentary is a step in the right direction, but we don't
necessarily look for the overtly political or even the overtly anything.
First and foremost, we like good writing, with strong elements of
plot and character. We like stories with impact. And we like stories
that feature theme. In a word, a Mobius story or poem is about SOMETHING.
At Mobius
we believe that writing is power and good writing empowers both the
reader and the writer. We feel strongly that in an increasingly corporate
literary scene, there needs to be alternatives. Mobius strives to
do just that, providing an outlet for writers disenfranchised by a
bottom-line marketplace and challenging writing for those who feel
that today's literary standard to killing us in a slow, mind numbing
fashion.
Through
the miracle of the Web, Mobius.Net will allow us to share with you
a greater number of stories and poems than in our print counterpart.
Enjoy! And feel free to submit your fiction and poetry, either snail
or e-mail. Again, we like social commentary, but mainly we like good
writing. All submissions will receive a fair and thoughtful critique.
Sorry, we offer no payment at this time. Fiction over 5000 words will
not be read.
