Wolf Hollow-Ipswich, MA

I think most of us have a certain level of fascination about the four legged predators that wondered our countryside not to so long ago. Wolves have been the staring character in drawings, books, movies, and cartoons (Little Red Riding Hood, Dances with Wolves, The Call of the Wild, etc.) since man has stood erect. Many of these stories have furthered a bad wrap that is underserved. Wolves are fascinating creatures with a very strong family like society; not the menacing creatures from hell that many stories make the out to be.

Non-profit foundations like Wolf Hollow go a long way in educating the public about the reality of these animals and how they fit into our modern world.

Wolf Hollow is home to about seven gray wolves which can be viewed in a near natural habitat. The Foundation was started in 1988 to educate the public in hopes of preserving these creatures in the wild. Wolf Hollow is licensed by the state and feds, and is financially support by admission fees.

Their weekly presentations are extremely educational and entertaining for children and adults. We have brought visiting relatives of all ages from children to seniors, and it is always a hit. The facility contains a large fenced in area with bleachers for patrons seating. The fence is actually a fence inside a fence with a DMZ separating them for safety. The handlers walk the wolves through a series of activities to demonstrate their societal interactions and activities. The presentations last about an hour and I suggest you get there early. Lines form quickly during the tourist seasons.

If you plan to attend in cool weather be sure to dress appropriately, all of the activities are outdoors. You may also want to bring stadium pillows or a blanket to cover the wooden bleachers.
