Great grandfather Martin Pugh's mother was Charlotte Martindale and the Martindale lineage has been traced well by many. Martindale family people may recognize this:

20 MARTIN (3) MARTINDALE (William (2) John (1)), b. in S. C. 27 Dec. 1791 and emigrated to Ohio in his youth; m. Elizabeth Pearson in Warren county, Ohio 27 Dec. 1810. She was b. in S. C. 19 Dec. 1793, a daughter of John and Barbara (Cain) Pearson. They lived first on the Little Miami in Ohio, then moved across to Ind., settling on Martindale Creek, near New Castle. There he worked at the trade of wheelwright, making wheels for spinning flax and wool. In 1814 or 1815 he acquired 160 acres about two miles east of Greens Fork and they lived there for a while. In 1823 they moved to Wayne twp., Marion county, Ind., where he had purchased 355 acres, about five miles northwest of the present city of Indianapolis, later adding another 80. The log house he built upon this tract and in which they lived stood until 1926. He operated a combination sawmill and grist mill on Eagle Creek near their log home. He served two terms as justice of the peace in Wayne twp. He d. 12 Oct. 1843. His wife d. 15 Nov. 1876. Both buried, together with seven of their children, in Old Union churchyard, two miles southeast of Clermont, Marion county, Ind., near their home. (Refs. 4, 5) (H. H. M. believes that birth dates of Martin Martindale and his wife, stated above as shown upon their tombstones, are in error by a year or two. One record was found indicating that Martin Martindale was b. 7 Jan. 1788.) Children:

74 CHARLOTTE (4) MARTINDALE (Martin (3) William (2) John (1)), b. on the Little Miami in Ohio 14 Nov. 1811; m. 18 Feb 1830 Enoch Pugh, son of Jacob Pugh, Sr., and his second wife Dorcas (Glasco) Pugh. For relation of Enoch Pugh to others of that family, see No. 80 herein. He was b. 15 May 1807. She d. 28 Aug. 1843 and he m. (2) a widow, Mary Susan Craig. He d. 1 June 1861. Charlotte and Enoch Pugh were both buried in the Old Union Cemetery in Wayne twp., Marion county, Ind. Children:

80 LUCINDA (4) MARTINDALE (Martin (3) William (2) John (1)), b. 14 Dec. 1824 in Marion county, Ind. She d. 20 Nov. 1854 and is buried in the Old Pioneer cemetery, Marion county, IN. She m. 6 July 1845 Jacob M. Pugh, Jr., son of Isaac Pugh and grandson of Jacob Pugh, Sr. The Pughs had settled on an adjacent farm a year before the Martindales had come to Marion county in 1823. Jacob Pugh, Sr., b. 1767, d. 6 Sept 1825. His second wife Dorcas Pugh, b. 1783, d. 1858. Her son Enoch Pugh was half-brother of Isaac Pugh and m. Lucinda Martindale's older sister Charlotte (See No. 74). Jacob Pugh, Jr., b. 11 Nov. 1821, was reared on an Indiana farm but went to Knox county, Missouri, in 1854 and was a retail clerk for seven years in Edina. He entered military service in 1861 as a major of the 50th Regiment of East Missouri militia but was discharged because of conflict of authority with his superior officer. Soon after, governor Gamble appointed him colonel of the same regiment and he served as such until the close of the war. He had a successful lumber business in Edina after the war and a farm of 400 acres. (Ref. 14.) He m. (2) 20 July 1856 Anne S. Biggerstaff in Knox county, Missouri. He d. 11 May 1907. Children:
