Elbow Cay, Bahamas, January 2002

We spent a wonderful week with Tony and Elaine. Unfortunately, Tony had to leave about mid-visit and return to Canada due to a death in the family.

Tony and Elaine greet us at Bethel dock, complete with tropical flowers

Green Shutters is all spick and span after the damage caused by hurricane Floyd in 1999. Look closely at the upper deck and the pineapple cutouts in the fence. You'll see more of this later.

The tropical flowers off the rear deck at Green Shutters bring forth memories of our time in Hawaii.

Elaine says these trumpet flowers have a stong aphrodisiac affect IF you stand UNDER them.

The afternoon clouds are dramatic, here viewed from the deck off the kitchen.

Cindy checks out one of the plant for possible use in a salad.

Island Marine graciously provided us with the use of a boat for a day. We visited several of the other islands north of Elbow Cay. This is a pier at Man-o-War Cay.

Lunch at "Nippers" on the island of Great Guana, overlooking the Atlantic, prior to our return to Elbow Cay.

Evening cocktails with Jim and Carol Sexton, friends of Tony and Elaine from Canada. This is one BEAUTIFUL boat!

You may not be able to read the writing, but this identifies the stains left by various types of wine.

The next eveing we watched the sun set from the deck atop Green Shutters. In this shot the camera is looking east, and can see the Atlantic.

426 x 319
Still looking east, but from a higher vantage, we can see the land side of the dune that protects Green Shutters. The seaward side was largely rebuilt by the residents after Hurricane Floyd.

A neighbor's cat soaks up the last of the days sun on their roof.

426 x 319
Now looking southwest, we see the harbor where Elaine points out the location of a friend's house.

Cindy, Elaine and Angie pose at the edge of the deck.

Angie peers out through the decorative openings in the fence. She can keep track of the neighborhood from this location

And here is the "rest of the story"

The Hope Town light gets ready to guide the mariner as the sun goes down.

As this picture and the next show, the colors of the sunset change from minute-to minute

Spectacular!

Walking north, along the beach to the east of Green Shutters each morning, we enjoy the solitude.

426 x 319
One of the new "dune protection" stairs, replaced after hurricane Floyd (and the more recent Michele). This dune was largely removed during Floyd.

A cozy little place in a small harbor at the north end of Elbow Cay.

The resident lizard is asleep, inside his home. I wonder how he managed to land his plane in such a small yard.

Each morning, now, Cindy says, "I miss my walk on the beach". Who can blame her?
