When Melanie is caught again making up nonexistent facts, she rushes to hide her falsehoods--by replacing them with new ones!

There are some lawbreakers who are just recidivists. No matter how loudly they insist that they are going to turn over a new leaf and go straight, they invariably fall back into their criminal ways. That's what we were thinking of when we saw the latest from the newshounds (another fine product of the Outfoxed mob). Specifically, newspoodle Melanie. It seems like just yesterday when she was caught yet again, and assuring her gullible readers of her good intentions:

I am sorry. I work hard never to make this kind of mistake....I apologize for letting our readers down and I am sorry if I let my fellow News Hounds down.

So how's she doing? Not well. In an attempt to ridicule new intelligence regarding the whereabouts of Bin Laden, she falsifies another report on Fox News:

[Ken] Timmerman said there "was a meeting last year in November" between bin Laden's "number two" man, al-Zawahri, "in northern Iran with senior Iranian leaders."

Get the message? Nothing to see here; move on. It wasn't Bin Laden--just the number two man. No proof of anything. But Melanie is not telling the truth about what was said:

TIMMERMAN: There was a meeting in November of last year between Usama Bin Laden, his number two--Ayman al-Zawahri, the person that we see sometimes, the Egyptian that we see with Bin Laden--meeting in Northern Iran with senior Iranian leaders.

Oh, so it turns out Usama himself was at this meeting--but Melanie rewrites it to minimize (and distort) what was actually reported. A typical newshound "tact" (tm Melanie).

But when we think she can't embarrass herself or her fellow kennel-dwellers any further, Mel comes up with a gem, destined to be remembered as another newshound classic:

George Bush Dining with a Republican "Adult Film Star"? Whoops, Neil Cavuto Forgot the "Republican" Part
Fox's Neil Cavuto reported today (June 14, 2005) that George W. Bush would attend a "gala fundraiser" tonight and that "among those planning to attend" was "adult film star Mary Carey, who ran unsuccessfully for governor of California."
Comment: It's ever-so-predictable, isn't it, that Cavuto omitted the fact that Mary Carey ran as a Republican? If she'd run as a Democrat, you can bet your sweet bippy we'd know it.

Of course, Melanie gives no documentation (how could she when she just invents stuff on the spot?), but even so it's enough to convince the credulous:

I'll be dissapointed [sic] if Bill doesn't run a "special report" on the rise of perversions within the Republican Empire...err, Party.

Ah, the ever-so religious (?) Republican party. The party who welcomes hardcore pornographers whole-heartedly [sic].

You guessed it. Mary Carey (whose real name is Mary Cook) did not run as a Republican at all. Where did Melanie get the idea that she did? She made it up!

Let's reprise those deep thoughts, so that Mel won't have to look them up when she types them again:

I am sorry. I work hard never to make this kind of mistake....I apologize for letting our readers down and I am sorry if I let my fellow News Hounds down.

Recidivist.

Postcript: A reader pointed out that she was not telling the truth: "I guess anyone can say she ran as a Republican and it becomes fact. Melanie are you going to correct your post?" Fair question. So did she? Silly rabbit! Instead of admitting that she was caught again, Mel decided she'd rather bury the evidence. All of a sudden the article disappeared entirely from the main newshound page! Then, just as suddenly, it reappeared, with all traces of Carey's "Republicanism" removed--but no apology, retraction, or admission of error. Instead, it now reads:

Unfortunately, Mary Carey's platform is still on her campaign website. It includes legalizing gay marriage and ending prosecution of pornographers, She announces herself as proudly pro-choice, and in favor of physician-assisted suicide.

In other words, Melanie replaced one lie (that Carey ran as a Republican) with a new lie (that she is a conservative).

Like we said, recidivist.
