Within the first month, I was given the responsibilities of Field Training Officer and Acting Shift Supervisor. Rising through the ranks, I have served as patrol sergeant, Station Commander for all three Districts in the Florida Keys, and Commander of the Special Operations Division, which included the Traffic Unit, Intelligence Section, SWAT and Dive Teams, and Juvenile and Narcotics Units. I obtained the rank of lieutenant in 1988 through promotional testing. From 1994 until 2003 I served as the Director of the Training Division. With a full-time staff of three sergeants and one secretary, along with over 20 adjunct instructors, I was responsible for conducting task/needs analysis, research, policy writing, long range planning, and providing for year-round certification training to over 600 employees consisting of patrol deputies, corrections officers, and civilian support staff. I have also been involved in instructing adult learners for 19 of my 27 years in law enforcement, including teaching many academy and specialized courses through the local community college. In 2003 I transferred back to a Station Commander position in the Lower Keys.     St. Charles County Sheriff's Office 1981 to 1985 I began my law enforcement career in 1981 as a deputy with the St. Charles County Sheriff's Office in Missouri.
