KEIKO
Growing up in Minneapolis, MN in an "artistic" household, studying ballet, illustration, and equestrian arts, Keiko spent 14 years playing drums in various musical genres between 1986-2000. She eventually gravitated back to dance in 2000 via an African Drum & Dance class at SCCC with Atteh Nettey. As with most of the other members of The Circle, much of Keiko's belly dance influence was shaped through studies with Amelia Moore. Hers began in 2001.
Partial to dancing a Turkish/Egyptian blend, Keiko has also studied Persian, Turkish Rom, Algerian & Moroccan dances. Admittedly, her intrigue with things jingle-y and sparkle-y also spurs her interest in learning traditional & modern interpretations of belly dance.
Keiko has been a member of The Circle since its inception as Circle Dance Theater in 2002, and also performs solo in Seattle and Minneapolis.
