The design restoration effort for Powell Barnett Park continues, thanks to the dedication of passionate community members. We are excited to announce the first of three Public Design meetings with a Landscape Architect Firm.

The park property is located at 352 Martin Luther King Jr., Way between Alder and Jefferson streets. It spans 4.4 acres, bridging the Leschi, and Madrona neighborhoods. This central location serves an ethnically diverse population with a children’s play area, wading pool, basketball court and broad green field.

It was dedicated in 1969 to honor Mr. Powell Barnett upon the suggestion of the Leschi Improvement Council and students of Leschi Elementary School. Our vision is to restore the vitality of this historic landmark with a focus on Design, Safety, Maintenance and Events.

We’ve had two work parties over the summer working on perennial/annual beds, redefining edges of the tricycle maze, cleaning the children’s play equipment, mulching the trees for winter and repaving the Basketball court.
