The spring has definitely arrived to our mountains! When I went for a walk in the morning I first heard the vrrrrrrrr. I raised my head and saw high in the cold air a hummingbird hanging in one spot and watching me. They arrived 10 days early. They feed on nectar of the flowers and there aren't many blooming yet in our area. Many more are down in town where apricots, golden rain and cherries are in full bloom. Perhaps he was just on reconnaissance flight.
Jindra set the table for Easter. She boiled and colored eggs and displayed them with painted hollow easter eggs from the old country. In the little vase she put our daffodils and budding tree branches. She also baked a lamb cake made of light dough with shredded pecan nuts, covered with lemon icing. It has black eyes made of dry prunes. It is delicious. |

Teď už k nám do hor definitivně přišlo jaro! Při ranní procházce jsem najednou uslyšel vrrrrrrrr. Zvedl jsem hlavu a vysoko v ranním vzduchu visel kolibřík a díval se na mne. Přiletěli o deset dnů dříve. Živí se nektarem z květů a u nás ho ještě mnoho nenajdou. Dole ve městě jsou ale už v plném květu meruňky, zlatý déšť a třešně. Asi sem k nám zaletěl jen na průzkum.
Jindra vyzdobila stůl na Velikonoce. Uvařila a obarvila vajíčka a do druhé misky dala malované kraslice, které jsme si přivezli z Čech. Do vázičky dala několik větévek s vyrážejícími listy a naše narcisky. Na misce byl velikonoční beránek z ořechového těsta, politý bílou citronovou polevou. Místo očí má sušené švestky. Je výborný. |
