 I have been jogging by the fire station so I can observe firemen walking around the station and doing maintenance. Many are fat or getting fat. They are apparently good cooks and prepare their meals at the station. Now I read that between 1994 and 2004, 45% of the 1,144 on duty deaths among firefighters were due to cardiovascular events like heart attacks and strokes. Police officers suffered only half as many deaths during the same time. The largest number of heart attacks of firefighters occurred during fighting fires and training.
It looks like firefighters are not fit and are overweight. They should exercise more and eat less while waiting for a call.

 Běhám nedaleko požární stanice a pozoruji hasiče, jak se procházejí kolem zbrojnice a dělají údržbu, když zrovna nehasí požár. Mnoho z nich má přes váhu a nebo tloustnou. Na stanici se zřejmě dobře vaří. Teď jsem se dočetl, že v letech 1994 až 2004, 45% z 1,144 hasičů, zemřelo ve službě na kardiovaskulární chorobu jako je infarkt nebo mrtvice. Mezi policisty za stejné období jich zemřela jen polovina. Požárníci umírali na infarkty při hašení požárů a při tréningu.
Příčinou asi bude špatná fysická kondice a tlouštka. Měli by víc cvičit a méně jíst během pohotovosti. |
