 I almost forgot to describe the act of utmost laziness and indolence which I witnessed a few days ago in the Recreation Center where I work out.
I saw the young janitor coming out through the back door with two garbage bags to dispose of them in the dumpster which stands on the other side of the building, just around the corner. It is about 40 yards from the door. The dumpster is there so that the big garbage truck can maneuver to it and pick it up without difficulty.
The cleaning man in charge of garbage disposal didn't walk around the building to the dumpster as usually but aimed across the parking lot. He threw the plastic bags in the employer's car, drove to the dumpster and deposited them inside. He then drove back 40 yards, parked the car and returned to the building.
This is a bad example of American fastidiousness.

Málem bych zapomněl popsat to, co jsem ohodnotil jako nejvyšší stupeň lenosti a pohodlnosti. Viděl jsem to nedávno na vlastní oči, když jsem klusal kolem sportovního střediska, kam chodím cvičit.
Nejdříve jsem spatřil mladého uklízeče, jak vychází zadními dveřmi a v ruce nese dva plastikové pytle se smetím. Myslel jsem si, že s nimi půjde jako obvykle asi 40 metrů za roh budovy, kde stojí velká popelnice. Je tam proto, aby k ní mohl dobře zacouvat velký popelářský vůz.
Uklízeč, místo aby došel k popelnici pěšky, přešel parkoviště a hodil pytle do auta. Pak automobil zaměstnavatele nastartoval, odejel k popelnici, otočil se, vyndal pytle, hodil je do popelnice a odejel zpět na parkoviště.
Tak tohle je špatný příklad americké zhýčkanosti. |
